Cosmopolitan Fashion Show

The evening started off with a massive queue lining up. There were hundreds of people eagerly looking at the entrance to open up. Eventually after some time (which felt like forever to the attendees) Cosmo started letting people in. From the moment you handed over your ticket, you were treated like a celebrity.

Following the stamp on your arm and receiving of goodie bag, you proceeded to the Cosmo red carpet for a pic. The goodie bags were filled with plenty of exciting things – Cosmo Mag, Lots of vouchers, Mascara from “benefit”, Cutex from “wet n wild”, “Hoity Toity” perfume, “Caribbean-tan” lotion, Body mist from “Factorie”, “Guess” branded portable phone charger and many more.  The event area was filled with people within the first 20 minutes. There were waiters walking around handing out drinks; making you feel like royalty and the likes of well-known Mrs. World and Zoe Brown could be seen in the midst, also enjoying the glamour.
Stands were visible all over promoting brands like Hoity Toity fragrances, Mac make up, drinks corner sponsored by Namaqua, Claires jewellery and more. The sweets corner was also an ultimate treat where people lined up to get a taste of the goodies. At round about 8:00 PM the show started. The whole area went dark and the big screen lit up showcasing all brands participating in the fashion show. Loud music was playing, building the excitement even more. The MC and cover girl of Cosmo Jeans Edit, Nomzamo Mbatha, opened the night with a welcome and introduction.

The show started with Denim Couture, showcasing the most glamorous denim gowns and corsets. Following was a co-branded effort by brands like G-star raw, Charles & Keith, K-Way and more. All the other featured brands started flooding the ramp with the best out of their denim ranges. Sequence, colours, faux fur and tassels stood out in many outfits.

Replay, Foschini, Guess, Forever New, Claires, The fix and off course Soviet dominated the runway. Soviet featured a range of outfits that was paired with a camo/army theme. Ten models (5 male and 5 female) owned the stage with their hard core denim outfits which was accompanied by check shirts, leather jackets, trendy handbags and the famous Soviet sneakers. The Cosmo team added camo caps, dog tags, camo watches, ray bans, berets and big hoop earrings to complete the Soviet look.

The evening ended off with a few songs performed by “Jimmy Nevis”. His back up dancers gave it all they got and closed off the show with a bang. Huge thanks go out to Mr Lee Fraser for all the support and awesome pics!!

Winter Make-Up Tips:

So the winter season has officially hit SA, some of us love this time of the year others are more preferential to the summer months. Either way, we’ve hopefully stocked up on all our winter fashion essentials, coats, scarves, beanies, boots, leggings and jeans. Unfortunately, we do tend to forget one winter essential…Our skin. Since the weather has changed so drastically your skin routine needs to change with it. This is harsh time of year for your skin so you need to look after it and nurture it over the next few months… We have some suggestions on how to keep your skin in tip top condition in winter.

#1. Evening skin prep:
This is the perfect time of day to wash your face because when you sleep your face muscles relax and your products will be able to penetrate your skin better. We suggest that after washing your face you apply an intense hydration mask as your skin tends to become very dry in winter. Once – twice a week mask application is perfect. Just remember hydration is key to keeping your skin soft and smooth.

#2. Moisturizer!!
This will be your key make-up essential in Winter. Keep a facial moisturizer both at home and in your bag. We suggest you moisturize as often as you can. Remember that base is also easier to apply to skin that is thoroughly moisturized otherwise the base will become blotchy and dry spots will start to appear on your face.

#3. Coverage
We understand that’s is winter time and no one enjoys looking pale and basically transparent. Just remember we are all in the same boat and no one is really opting for a spray tan in the middle of winter. So we suggest that you don’t use overly dark bases in winter, try keep as close to your natural skin tone as possible. This creates a beautiful, natural & classic winter look without landing up being bright orange in the middle of winter.

#4. Don’t overdo the Make-up.
In winter your skin becomes a lot dryer and more sensitive, so it’s a good idea to lay off on the amount of make-up you apply during this time. We suggest you stick to a light bronzer and blush for colour, go for a simple nude eye-shadow pallet and stay away from harsh lip colours instead rather use a tinted lip balm.

Following these tips will help keep your skin feel healthy and fresh in the harsh winter months, and remember there is nothing more beautiful than the natural YOU!

Denim Fashion Fails

Most of us have had at least one fashion fail in life... We’d like to think it was a one time deal and move forward from it, but sometimes a fashion fail could potentially rear a horrendous face again! That’s why we’re here, let us save you from making any further #fails with a few tips on how to wear denim the right way:

#1. Always take a long hard look in the mirror before you walk out the door. Make sure that those favourite jeans of yours don’t look like a saggy diaper after 5 years of use. Make sure they fit like a glove and you feel sexy & confident walking out that door…if you don’t... change immediately!!

#2. So winters approaching and you’ve started to comfort eat for warmth…nothing wrong with that, just make sure your clothes are aware of your eating habits. Why not have a fav pair of summer and winter jeans? The summer ones can stay your normal everyday size and your winter pair could probably be a size bigger.

#3. Belts ladies…this accessory can be your best friend. If your jeans are a little loose or low waisted don’t set a foot out the door without a belt.

#4.“Mom Jeans” are not for everyone, maybe if you are Kim or Kylie Kardashian then yes but otherwise we would suggest you just didn’t. Mom jeans can make your bum look as flat as a pancake and if they are high rise they could double as a push up bra… Its 2016, leave the mom jeans back in the 80’s.

#5.Ladies, leave the bells and whistles at home. Bling jeans that are bedazzled from here till next week are so 2000’s. We also advise that you don’t follow every single new trend that pops out of Fashion Mag or Hollywood… most of the time these trends disappear within a month. Don’t waste your money on fashion fads.

We hope you take these tips to heart, as they might save you some serious denim fashion fails in the future. Why not look to Soviet Denim to handle all our fashion and denim needs this winter. Shop now at http://www.zando.co.za/women/soviet/

5 Ways to stay fashionable during winter:

During those cold winter months its sometimes difficult to keep stylish and fashionable. Especially when all you want to do is walk around in either your warm pyjamas or load on those chunky layers. We have 5 tips to keep you super fashionable this winter.

1.       Hat’s and Beanies are your friends.
Hats and beanies are the perfect warm accessory that can pull a whole outfit together. Don’t underestimate the power of a gorgeous floppy hat or a faux fur beanie. It also helps to hide a bad hair day.

2.       Keep those lips bold:
It’s important to brighten up those gloomy days and dark outfits with a bold lip. This will instantly give your outfit a chic and effortless look.

3.       Keep your chunky scarves close:
Chunky scarves are your best friend during winter. They are a must on most chilly days and they never go out of style. Remember the chunkier the better and bold colours can really brighten up your overall look.

4.       Statement Coat:
Make sure you have that perfect statement coat in your closet. The coat that goes with every outfit you own and the one that never lets you down. Whether its plain or bold and dramatic make sure you invest in one!

5.       Don’t forget your favorite pair of Boots:
Every woman’s favorite winter item…their boots. They come in many different styles, shapes and colours & are the ultimate accessory in everyone’s winter wardrobe. You can dress an outfit up and down with just a pair of boots.
