So the winter season has officially hit SA, some of us love this time of the year others are more preferential to the summer months. Either way, we’ve hopefully stocked up on all our winter fashion essentials, coats, scarves, beanies, boots, leggings and jeans. Unfortunately, we do tend to forget one winter essential…Our skin. Since the weather has changed so drastically your skin routine needs to change with it. This is harsh time of year for your skin so you need to look after it and nurture it over the next few months… We have some suggestions on how to keep your skin in tip top condition in winter.

#1. Evening skin prep:
This is the perfect time of day to wash your face because when you sleep your face muscles relax and your products will be able to penetrate your skin better. We suggest that after washing your face you apply an intense hydration mask as your skin tends to become very dry in winter. Once – twice a week mask application is perfect. Just remember hydration is key to keeping your skin soft and smooth.

#2. Moisturizer!!
This will be your key make-up essential in Winter. Keep a facial moisturizer both at home and in your bag. We suggest you moisturize as often as you can. Remember that base is also easier to apply to skin that is thoroughly moisturized otherwise the base will become blotchy and dry spots will start to appear on your face.

#3. Coverage
We understand that’s is winter time and no one enjoys looking pale and basically transparent. Just remember we are all in the same boat and no one is really opting for a spray tan in the middle of winter. So we suggest that you don’t use overly dark bases in winter, try keep as close to your natural skin tone as possible. This creates a beautiful, natural & classic winter look without landing up being bright orange in the middle of winter.

#4. Don’t overdo the Make-up.
In winter your skin becomes a lot dryer and more sensitive, so it’s a good idea to lay off on the amount of make-up you apply during this time. We suggest you stick to a light bronzer and blush for colour, go for a simple nude eye-shadow pallet and stay away from harsh lip colours instead rather use a tinted lip balm.

Following these tips will help keep your skin feel healthy and fresh in the harsh winter months, and remember there is nothing more beautiful than the natural YOU!
