Kelly Rillema Shows Her 947 Using Soviet Shoes

00:10 0 Comments

One of our own, Killy Rillema entered the 94.7 Highveld Radio competition, #ShowUsYour947. To get your hands on the cash, all you have to do is Show them your 947. Prove just how much you love this city, its people and its places using the new 947 logo and you could pocket R947 or walk away with R94 700.

You could take a snapshot of yourself and their logo with the icon Joburg skyline as your backdrop, or in a packed Joburg taxi...whatever you do, you need to be creative. You had to make sure your pic is the epitome of your city and what it means to you.

Kelly, being so passionate about Soviet Denim, went and used 60 pairs of Soviet shoes to pattern out the number 947 and adding the tag line, 'Keeps me on my feet'. Her entry got her onto the Anele Mdoda show and an opportunity to chat about our brand, the Summer collection, Real People, Real Denim and how much she loves working for Soviet.

It was truly a proud moment for Soviet and everyone involved and we encourage everyone to go out there and do their bit for what they love (hopefully that's us *wink wink*)

Thank you Kelly!

Lenasia Premier League - Sporting Supermen

23:21 0 Comments

The Lenasia premier league is a semi-professional league for 20/20 cricket in Gauteng and South Africa. It was the brainchild of Ziyaad Desai and was co-founded by Riaaz Gaibee and Ziyaad Kardamey. The LPL is currently contested by 6 franchise teams comprising of players from all over the country. The names of these teams are, The Bank All Stars, Crescent Hawks, Cavalier Cats, Sporting Supermen, Tasmanian Devils and Shakti Tigers. The LPL is considered to be the world’s best run semi-professional 20/20 league. Top local Lenasia talent and the best players from around the country take part in the LPL contributing to what is the worlds “richest and best club competition”.

The aims and objectives of the LPL have always remained constant with the main focus being to break down all barriers which exist between people, be it race, political or religious, to name a few. It is there to provide an opportunity for any talented cricketer to showcase their ability. The LPL have remained true to its Lenasia based players and this can be seen in the number of local players represented in the tournament. The LPL has upgraded the Lenasia cricket stadium and shall continue to do so with the help of Selvin Pilay.

The main goals of the tournament are:

• To re-create the excitement for the game of cricket that once existed in the cricket loving
community of Lenasia and its surrounding areas.

• To foster a spirit of brotherhood and sportsmanship through the wonderful game of cricket.

• To find and nurture young talent.

• To become the much talked about, anticipated annual sporting event of the year
in Gauteng Cricket.

• To prepare club cricketers with a platform to sharpen their skills before the upcoming
club cricket season.

• To create a platform for aspiring cricket players to showcase their talent and skills.

• To allow retired cricket players to give back to grass root cricket development.

• To generate a start up fund that will initiate the establishment and building
of a cricket academy.

• To bring people of various backgrounds and age groups, together in an enjoyable and fun way

• To break down racial barriers in the sport.

This year Soviet Denim sponsored the Sporting Supermen, who is captained by one of our very own, Carlyn Le Maitre's husband Juan Le Maitre. It was a well contested season by all 6 franchise teams and it made for an exciting final, who saw the Sporting Supermen face the 2012 and 2013 winners, Bank All Stars . Both teams played well but the Sporting Supermen dominated in the field and with the bat.

In the end, we are proud to say that the Sporting Supermen took the title and are crowned the 2014 LPL Champions.

To find out more about the Lenasia Premier League and how to get involved, you can visit there website or like them on their Facebook page.

Breaking Records - Denim Culture

08:21 0 Comments

Yesterday in South Africa we celebrated Heritage Day, a day South Africans across the spectrum are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people.

So we wanted to celebrate our culture, Denim. By doing this we created a campaign on all of our Social Media platforms; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Asking our fans to like the image and by that they stood a chance to win 1 of 24 pairs of Soviet denims. We were blown away by the great response and to this day has been our best social media campaign to date. To put it into perspective, we had 362 likes, 430 comments and 474 shares, reaching 8000 people just on our Facebook page alone.

We are already excited for our next social media campaign. Watch this space!

Soviet Denim At The Mens Health Fashion Show

06:51 1 Comments

Last night at the Mens Health Fashion Show, Soviet Denim made an appearance, a strong one at that.

Soviet Denim were amongst a host of awesome brands at the show, these included the likes of Guess, Dickies, Scotch & Soda, Le Coq Sportif and Polo to name a few. Great outfits were put together by the relevant brands with some of SA's top models rocking this summers hottest trends.

The event was a fabulous affair with a host of South Africa's top celebrities, bloggers and fashionistas in attendance. Greeted by a table of champers and beautiful hostesses you made your way up two stories to the main event situated on a roof top over looking the lights of Joburg. The venue and set up had many people comparing it to roof top parties set in New York City. The energy of the people brought the place to life, the drinks flowed all night and the music kept the energy up until the early hours of Friday morning.

The actual fashion show was flawless with some of the Mens Health Cover Models strutting their stuff and abs of steal down the run way, giving the girls something to scream about. The music was key and complimented the brands and outfits to perfection while the models walked down the runway. Fans cheered and whistled for their favorite brands or sexiest models with tons of flashes from cameras and cellphones going off while people frantically tweeted and Instagramed their favorite pics. Overall the atmosphere was electric and incredible to be a part of it.

In the end (not to be biased), I felt that Soviet Denim were definitely the strongest denim brand out of all of them. We were the only brand to put denim on denim and thanks to the superb styling of Michelle Steyn...we nailed it! Soviet Denim definitely made its mark at this years Mens Health Fashion Show and with good reason, as this years Summer Collection is HOT!

Here are some photos from last night, showcasing the eight outfits our gorgeous models strutted down the catwalk in.
