5 Denim Jacket Re-vamp tips:

23:54 7 Comments

We all have that one favourite denim jacket in our cupboard that we bring out every year as the weather begins to change. It seems though that this jacket has seen better days, the colour has faded, buttons have fallen off or the sleeves have frayed. You know it’s time to move on but you just can’t let go. We suggest that you keep that old raggedy jacket because we have a few tips on how to re-vamp and make it look as good as new.

1. Studs, Pearls & Bling:
These three items are the perfect way to start off your jacket re-vamp. Head to your local fabric shop or haberdashery and hook yourself up with some of these awesome accessories. All you will need is some fabric glue and you are sorted. Get creative and make some intricate patterns especially over the areas of the jacket that don’t look so hot. Why not also style up the collar of your jacket, this will make an interesting statement piece?

2. Patch-Work
Don’t be afraid to patch it up. If you have any rips tears or even a stain somewhere on the jacket, grab some funky fabric cut offs, a needle and thread or a sewing machine if you have one and patch it up. This will create a fun and interesting contrast between the denim and the funky fabric you choose to use.

3. Colour Change-Up:
There is nothing better than a little colour re-vamp. If your jacket is looking super faded and dull why not vibe it up a bit. Purchase some fabric dye in the colour of your choice and give your jacket completely new look. We suggest you go bold, try dark blue and even something a little out there like purple.

4. Sleeveless:
If the bottom edges of your sleeves are frayed and have seen better days, why not take both sleeves completely off. Grab some sharp fabric scissors, use a black marker to plan out your cutting line and go for it! If you prefer the grunge look, leave the edges frayed or if your preferred to hem the edges with a sewing machine leave a little fabric on the sleeve in order to do so.

5. Embellished Collar:
Why not also style up the collar of your jacket, this will make for an interesting statement piece on your garment. Grab some studs or even head to the scrapbooking store for some ribbon or little fake flowers and use fabric glue to stick them on to the collar of your jacket. If you decide to do this re-vamp, we suggest you hand wash your jacket so that your creation doesn’t get ruined in the washing machine.

On the 4th June Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, visited Soviet Denim at the Mall Of Africa. After a morning of fabulous shopping at Soviet she met with some of her loyal fans in store. We got to sit down with Ntando, catch up on how her Miss South Africa reign is going so far and chat about her Soviet shopping spree.

According to Ntando her reign as Miss SA has been absolutely amazing so far and she is learning so much. Ntando is also enjoying her involvement with Soviet Denim as a brand ambassador and she loves the fact that Soviet embraces the "Real People" which aligns perfectly with the image portrayed by Miss South Africa.

The best part of her day at Soviet was obviously all the shopping and she loved having the store all to herself, "The vibe is great, the staff & the music make the whole shopping experience so much fun" says Ntando. Miss SA also loves her Soviet jeans, the way they hug her body and having a pair of Soviet jeans named after you is also super cool.

Ntando absolutely loved meeting her fans & supporters in store, the best part was that she got to make the day of a little boy who happened to be celebrating his birthday! Can you say #MagicalMoments. Miss South Africa also extended a huge thank you to her fans for all the support, she appreciates every single one of you. Stands were visible all over promoting brands like Hoity Toity fragrances, Mac make up, drinks corner sponsored by Namaqua, Claires jewellery and more. The sweets corner was also an ultimate treat where people lined up to get a taste of the goodies. At round about 8:00 PM the show started. The whole area went dark and the big screen lit up showcasing all brands participating in the fashion show. Loud music was playing, building the excitement even more. The MC and cover girl of Cosmo Jeans Edit, Nomzamo Mbatha, opened the night with a welcome and introduction.

The show started with Denim Couture, showcasing the most glamorous denim gowns and corsets. Following was a co-branded effort by brands like G-star raw, Charles & Keith, K-Way and more. All the other featured brands started flooding the ramp with the best out of their denim ranges. Sequence, colours, faux fur and tassels stood out in many outfits.

Ten models (5 male and 5 female) owned the stage with their hard core denim outfits which was accompanied by check shirts, leather jackets, trendy handbags and the famous Soviet sneakers. The Cosmo team added camo caps, dog tags, camo watches, ray bans, berets and big hoop earrings to complete the Soviet look.
