Osborne “Big Daddy” Machimana

Former SA Heavyweight Champ On Comeback

Tonight we see Soviet sponsored Osborne “Big Daddy” Machimana, taking on Mudimba Muanza in his comeback fight for the charity event Dubbed "Fighting for the Angels"

Machimana last fought in November 2013 when he was outpointed over 10 rounds by South Africa-based Zimbabwean Elvis Moyo for the WBF Africa title in Cape Town.

Machimana said he needed to win to be back in Boxing SA’s ratings and to enhance his chances of reclaiming the title.

“It is a must win fight for me,” Machimana said yesterday. “Mudimba is a closed book and that is a bit of a worry.”

Machimana is coming back, looking fitter and meaner, weighing in at 116kg - thanks to manager Kathy Deftereos, personal trainer Fabrizio Clarizio and boxing trainer Michele Castellan.

Machimana steps into the ring tonight to face Cape Town based Congolese Mudimba at Hellenic Hall in Germiston.

Machimana stated “Credit must also go to Glen Kriek, who has organised a job for me with retail clothing label Soviet, who is also my sponsor.”

From all of us at Soviet we wish Osborne Machimana the best tonight!

The fight takes place 24th July 2015, 18h00 for 18h30
Germiston Hellenic Hall
St John’s Hall
Cnr Wychwood & Lobelia Roads
Primrose, Germiston.

We’re Loving Liesl Laurie

29 March 2015 - Dressed in white, like the elegant, confident and determined beauty goddess she is, Ms. Liesl Laurie stands with four of her competitors at the Sun City Super Bowl as the host announces the second and first Ms. South Africa 2015 Princesses. Her name isn’t called, but deep inside she knows who will be crowned the winner...
Speaking to City Press the morning after her crowning, the humble 24 year old Ms. Liesl Laurie, Ms. South Africa 2015, from Eldorado Park in Johannesburg said: “I dreamed and I prayed about winning the crown. I’ve always believed that whatever is for me, would be for me.”
Ms. Laurie is a B.Com graduate from the University of Johannesburg. After graduating she decided to pursue a full-time career in modelling, as well as giving back to her community.
"I have been working with a number of non-profit organisations that include Babies Behind Bars and Pilgrim Oasis Community Children’s Outreach in Eldorado Park and adjacent informal settlement in Kliptown." says Liesl.
Besides her giving, charitable personality, Soviet also loves her for her gracious, self-loving fashion sense: “I have learned over the years that image is about the person’s level of care for themselves; if you look good, you appear to be someone that cares about their wellbeing. This could also be good in boosting your confidence. It is important to know who you are, know how to take care of yourself and to acquire the right information, and be knowledgeable about your surroundings,” says the beauty.
However, following in the steps of her Pageant mentor, Tatum Keshwar (Ms. South Africa 2008), Liesl believes in staying true to herself and reaching the goals she sets for herself.

“The greatest achievement for me would be to touch someone's life, even if it's one person that I can inspire to not give up on their dreams. I want to be a light that brightens someone's life. I want every person to see a little bit of themselves in me, and remember that if a girl from Eldorado Park had the courage to follow her dreams, they can achieve theirs too.”

Soviet: The Flattering Fit

Soviet: The Flattering Fit

It’s hard to find a pair of denims that fit you like a glove, and once you’ve found that pair, it isn’t easy to let go: even if they get holes and tears.
With all the different cuts available today, how do you let go of your favourite tattered pair, and choose a denim that makes you look like a goddess? Soviet’s simple style tips will help you find the most flattering fit for you!
Plus-sized Curves: Embrace your curves and celebrate the goddess that you are in a boot-cut style denim that balances your curvy hips and full bust. A medium rise with stretch allows for easy movement, but stay away from embellishments and glitter.
Tummy Tumbler: A mid-rise style denim that is loose enough to contain any muffin-top, yet shapely enough to enhance your feminine curves is perfect for you.
Shapely Thighs: Flaunt your trim waist while slimming your thighs with tapered jeans with a no-gap hidden elastic waistband. Stretchy fabrics help hold in thighs and provide a better fit for your waistline.
Tall Order: Long legs are a desirable attribute, but a rare one. Show off your heavenly sents with an elegant boot-cut that flatters your long legs.
Hourglass Lass:  Hug your curves, don’t squish them. Straight lines will strike  pleasing balance and will elongate your figure, while a high waist will eliminate muffin top.

No Wasting Your Waist: Denims that sit higher p your waist will avoid embarrassing back-side displays and uncomfortable fits. Avoid skintight denim that can stretch out quickly and sag.

The Perfect Pear: If you want to downplay your heavier lower half, and put some emphasis on your slim upper body, try denims with a tapered leg and avoid wide legs that will make your hips look wider. Add a loose belt over your shirt to create the illusion of a waistline.

Living Large: Look for jeans with straight legs and lightweight fabric to balance out larger hips. Try avoid denims with back pockets - these make your hips seem larger.

Sweet & Petite: When your small frame drowns in denim, choose a wide-leg pair that is fitted through the thigh. Avoid cropped cuts or capris, which shorten your legs.

No Booty: Your denims look great from the front, but leave a little to be desired from the back… Skip flat pockets - slit pockets will make most of your curve

Stylish in Soviet

Jeans, t-shirts and your worn-out, tattered pair of sneakers… There’s nothing that beats the casual, comfortable reputation of your favourite denim.
But with the changing attitude towards denim, more and more people are finding the best-of-both worlds in this traditionally casual fashion legend. Company attire, interviews, formal events: denim has not only become acceptable, it is expected.
However, there are a few rules to what you pair denim with to keep it glamorous. They might be comfortable, but they still have to be formal.
  1. Add a formal jacket: Blazers and suit jackets are the definition of formal attire, and can make your whole ensemble look very classy. Pair it with plain tank underneath (for women), or a collared shirt (for men) and formal shoes. Remember to button up, except for the last button - just to add some old-fashioned protocol.
  2. Wear tall boots: With its sophisticated look, and close similarities to trousers, dark blue denims are the easiest way to accessorise for a formal look. Wear them with tan or black knee-high leather boots and a simple outfit for a model-chic look.
  3. Statement shoes: Every girl knows that the right shoes can make an outfit right.. Wear a pair of eye-catching, breath-taking high heels and you are set to go. Besides, people will be too busy admiring your shoes to worry about the rest of your outfit.
  4. Lacy Tracy: Old-fashioned has never been so modern with lace taking over the fashion scene. Mix a vintage-styled top with modern comfort for a fashion forward formal look. Wear a nude cami underneath so you don’t put attention on the wrong aspect of the lace.
  5. Jewel it up: Pull a Marriah and pile on the jewels. Dress up your dark blue denims by layering on strands of ribbon-wrapped pearls, African beads or diamond ice. You can mix bracelets, necklaces and earrings as you please. More is more in this case. Just keep the jewels of similar materials and different lengths.
  6. Winter Wow: It’s the cold season, and staying warm is top priority right now. Keep yourself warm and classy by wearing a substantial sweater coat over a crewneck sweater and cropped denims. Avoid extra bulk by highlighting your waist with a cute belt.
  7. Glitter & Glow: Nothing says formal like a sparkly sexy look. Glam up basic black denim by accessorising with a sequin tank or blingy top. Layer with a boyfriend blazer and you are ready to shine.

While all this formal is taking over our closets, remember to stay true to yourself. Also, remember that your Soviet apparel is not only easy to glam up, it is also still comfortable, trendy and sexy in anything you decide to pair it with.

Soviet: Making Blue Jeans Talk

Soviet: Making Blue Jeans Talk

Your denims have been with you everywhere, from your first bike-ride, your first day at school, your first date, your first kiss, to your first legit rock concert. Nobody can deny that blue jeans are the stuff that memories are made of.

Blue jeans have come a long way from their humble origins to a fashion must-have. In fact, blue jeans have made such an impact on the world-wide culture, that some musicians have felt the need to celebrate the iconic clothing piece in their music. These master pieces of the fashion world have been included in many musical genres over the decades: rock, punk rock, rap, hip-hop, pop…

Here are just 10 of them:

1. Neil Diamond: Forever in Blue Jeans

2. Elton John: Tiny Dancer (“Blue Jean Baby, L.A. Lady)

3. Lana Del Ray: Blue Jeans

4. David Bowie: The Jean Genie

5. The Donnas: Dirty Denim

6. Chingy: Dem Jeans

7. Stevie Nicks: Blue Denim

8. Kid Rock: Blue Jeans and a Rosary

9. Kings of Leon: Taper Jean Girl

10. Flo Rida, T-pain: Apple Bottom Jeans

With the attention-worthy cuts that Soviet has to offer, and a little inspiration from Jennifer Lopes, it's no wonder that a jeans make us want to “shake that ass”.

Next time your favourite radio station is playing, see how many times you can spot the word “jeans” in there. And let us know what your favourite jean-tune is.
